Hot Rod Jim’s truck came to us like most cars, old and in need of some TLC. With our regular shop truck on the frits we decided this truck needed to be a purpose built car to look good, sit low, get good gas mileage, be comfortable, able to pull a fully loaded trailer and run circles around any other truck out there. So the list is made and so we started the same way we always do, scrap the frame and everything under the car. 1957 technology was fine back in 57 but today’s roads require a different type of car, to keep up, be safe and not break the bank. We wanted a good handling sport truck so we started with the C4 corvette suspension as our platform and went from there. The next two problems we killed with one stone, sit low and still support a trailer on the back, the answer was simple, Air Ride. Our power plant then came from a ¾ ton box truck with the GM LQ4 6.0 and 4L80E transmission. These two would provide us with unparallel power, a reliable heavy duty transmission and good gas mileage for the right price. Some C6 Z06 Corvette brakes to help slow the monster down and matching rims and tires for neck breaking grip. We’ll be topping the truck off with a classic hot rod touch of flat black, red and white pin striping and Hot Rod Jim’s logo brushed on the side just like the good old days.
